We are a small collaborative of architects, brought together by longtime friendships, respect for vernacular, and a dedication to excellence in our craft. We like to think we are skilled, but mostly we care (quite a lot) about our clients, our business, and the elements of this world that we can influence and be influenced by.

We are native to a lot of places, but we live and work in upstate New York, surrounded by the rugged beauty of the landscape and the charm of small town life.  We are students of the local ways of building in this stunning and challenging terrain that stretches back many generations. We listen to the excavators, masons, carpenters and tradespeople who have mastered building here.  Our practice aims to provide a bridge between the aspirations of our clients and a seasoned approach to constructing dwellings in the place we call home.

Making a good building in an unrelenting environment is difficult. It requires thought, humility, communication, optimism and a little bit of magic—to us, it is Local.  Local is what happens when we listen carefully and find a perfect fit.  We listen to our surroundings, whether natural or human-made, in search of a meaningful environment to house all the complications that life can bring.  Local means we delight in celebrating the moments of joy and power to living in New York, from an unexpected ice storm to a breathtaking view on a crisp summer day.
